Although efforts to reduce the United States Divorce Rates have been in place, I think the federal government and state government should impose more laws to decrease teh divorce rate.
Among its efforts, the federal government should:
- Establish pro-marriage demonstration programs, by creating funds from existing federal social programs. These programs should teach marriage skills, including communication skills by diverting sufficient funds from existing federal social programs into programs that provide training in marriage skills.
- Rebuild the federal-state system for gathering statistics on marriage and divorce, which ended in 1993. This data provided crucial insight in which the nation could assess the true impact of divorce on families, schools, communities, and taxpayers.
- Create a public health campaign that will inform Americans of the high risks associated with divorce, and the many benefits of marriage long-term, and short (1).
Among their efforts, the states should:
- Establish pro-marriage education programs. These programs will teach couples skills they can use to handle conflict in their relationship.
- Require married couples with minor children to complete divorce education before filing for divorce.
- Promote community-wide marriage programs for couples planning to get married.
- End "no-fault" divorce for parents with children under age 18, requiring them to prove that the marriage will do more harm for the child, than good (1).
